HB Domestic Team train in The Flood House!

On Wednesday 28^th March 2018, the Harris Balcombe Domestic Division attended the National Flood School in Farnham to take part in
their ‘Water Damage Awareness Day’. The team were joined on the course by Ben Gayle from West One Surveyors who has recently joined as a Graduate Surveyor. The course was also shared with colleagues from the insurance industry including insurers and loss adjusters.

The day was split between theory and practice with the course making use of the ‘flood house’ which is flooded with water
to re-enact the scenes our technicians see on a daily basis. Whilst the trauma of a client seeing their home devastated
by flood is not something which could be demonstrated, we were able to see the restoration methods and learn the more
detailed theory behind the process.

“The course improved my understanding of the theory behind the everyday reports that we read from restoration and drying
specialists; we were able to see exactly what the drying machines and various other apparatus that are so often used
actually did to mitigate damage or to restore the affected area. There was a good mix of theory and practical lessons
throughout the day. I now feel that I will be more confident in discussing this aspect of the claim with our suppliers/insurers/the
